MIXTAPE: i call them summer hits

i haven't really been listening to anything new for awhile now. i miss being able to get pretty much all indie albums at red cat records, or maybe download whatever i want whenever i want. anyways, here are some tunes i'm listening to this week.

Field Music - She Can Do What She Wants



i wasn't too sure about them at first because their sound is hard to pin down. i listened to more of their tunes and now convinced that they are avant garde and catchy at the same time. what a combination. too bad the band is hibernating, i can't wait for them to come back. btw, field music says i can do what i want. woop!

The Strokes - Evening Sun



i hope someone will tell me that he loves me more than being seventeen too. julian casablancas (the lead vocal) is coming out with his solo album soon and i'm quite excited. go listen to more of the strokes because they are pretty awesome!

Architecture in Helsinki - Hold Music



i've been listening to architecture in helsinki for the longest time, but it wasn't until i saw this video that i fell in love with them. it's just absolutely bizarre to see a bunch of australian hippie nerds in brightly colored ponchos jumping on trampolines. how weird are they lol?

twitter all in one, with pictures too!

everyone has a twitter these days, am i like totally un-cool and out-of-date or what? i understand that one of the benefits of having a twitter means you don't have to feel silly and kind of lame when you write about series of random things in one single blog post. but i can't be bothered signing up a twitter account, so here's me feeling silly and kind of lame!

- i stumbled upon a few travel-writing blog posts about greece. and thought to myself, of all the tourists, no one (even if there are, only a few) can ever experience greece as we experienced it, and no one loves her like we do. i'm being a total snob but that was how i felt.



- the presets show we went to a few weeks ago (yes i know i'm totally behind) was fantastic fun.

- we also went to see ali's friend play in a dodgy pub. we got to meet some of the musicians who played that night, which was cool.

by the way, did you know that twitter is ruining our moral values? twitter is hardening our hearts, we hear all the terrible things that are going on in the world in short text versions which makes us not reactful. by only reacting on a surface level, that in time, makes us cold. read this! and that is exactly why i don't use twitter and therefore bug you with a very random and unorganized blog post instead! (now i feel even lame-r having to justify my action with a scientific finding!) i do use facebook though, but that only means i lose half of my moral values and that's totally fine with me. it's not like i have a whole lot to begin with.

i have said it a million times and i will say it again, manchester orchestra is amazing. this performance is absolutely profound. you know, one of those that can change someone's life forever?

manchester orchestra is from atlanta, georgia. i heard one of their songs on cbc radio 1 last year and was blown away. they are coming to vancouver in may and i'm ecstatic! weeeeeeeee!

LISTEN: white lies

Here's a hot new band from West London for you guys and dolls.



White Lies' debut album "To Lose My Life" was released earlier this year and reached no.1 on the UK Album Chart. BBC has also picked them as one of the "Artists to Watch in 2009".

LISTEN: placebo weeeeee!

i don't know why i have not yet talked about placebo. they are one of my favourite rock bands ever. and probably the most interesting.



i love the fact that the three major members all have different sexual orientation. Olsdal is homosexual, Hewitt is heterosexual (though he did leave the band last year), and Molko is bisexual. the only member they're missing now is a pansexual on percussion lol.

so they are not as active in the recent years, receiving less positive coverage from the music press, but i heard they have a new full length album coming out in 2009, which is totally exciting.

LISTEN: the foals

i'm listening to foals again!!



they are from oxford, england, where i lived and worked for a year! their first full length album came out just before i left oxford to come home. brad scored anthea a copy of their cd from this dj at a club. he was drunk at the time of course. what did you think?

earlier this year, they were high on everybody's list of bands to watch in 2008, but the hype did seem to die down soon after. i will admit that you may get tired of their tunes pretty quickly because of the repetitiveness of the lyrics and the similar concept used in many of their songs. not to mention the whiny vocals. however, as the members have claimed, they are different from all the other bands from oxford. at least the "sounding spacey" bit.

although not one of their big hits, this here is my favourite from them =D

the killers' third album "day & age" is out. woop! everyone go get a copy!

"human" was the first single from the new album.



"tranquilize" was a collaboration with lou reed and was released in 2007.

their new album's awesome and all, just one complain though why the heck does the uk get it one day sooner than we do? that's so freaking unfair, they are americans (well not that i'm american but you know what i mean).

anyways i just got a copy and can't wait to listen to it.

and who says i'm against mainstream huh?
